REHVA calls for timely implementation of the revised EPBD

Standards and regulation: REHVA calls for timely implementation of the revised EPBD

REHVA, together with 26 organisations, has signed a joint statement supporting the practical implementation of the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) across all EU Member States.

The statement responds to the European Commission’s decision to launch infringement proceedings against all 27 Member States for failing to complete the transposition of Directive (EU) 2024/1275 into national law by the deadline.

Buildings account for around 40% of final energy consumption in the EU and around half of gas consumption. Heating, cooling and hot water account for around 80% of household energy use.

REHVA stresses that formal transposition alone is not enough. Clear compliance verification procedures, practical guidance, enforcement and sufficient administrative capacity are needed.

The organisation is ready to support implementation with technical expertise, training materials, examples and harmonised standards for the energy performance of buildings.
