HVAC Intelligence: Trane and Eaton develop a reference design for data centres

SWORDS, Ireland and CLEVELAND, Ohio – 17 August 2026.

– Trane Technologies (NYSE:TT), a global climate innovator, and intelligent power management company Eaton (NYSE:ETN) today announced a strategic collaboration combining advanced thermal management and electrical system architectures to help accelerate AI factory deployment, improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Trane Technologies and Eaton are introducing a first-of-its-kind reference design that replaces the traditionally slow, manual and fragmented design process with a unified, intelligent power and cooling system for next-generation data centres.

By advancing medium-voltage designs for high-power-density AI factories, the companies can achieve combined energy efficiency improvements of up to 15%, reduce copper use by as much as 80% and cut installation costs by up to 30% compared with conventional low-voltage designs, while enabling faster deployment and reducing complexity.

With global data centre capacity potentially almost tripling by 2030, and AI driving approximately 70% of this growth, the reference design provides a more efficient approach to scaling data centre infrastructure.
