In line with the company’s Better Life for All ESG vision, these latest efforts demonstrate its unwavering commitment to minimising environmental impact.
TÜV Rheinland, an international testing and certification organisation, recently confirmed that LG’s newly introduced manufacturing process has reduced carbon dioxide emissions during the production of four-way cassette air conditioners to 14.85 kilograms of CO₂ equivalent* per unit.
Alongside the change in manufacturing method, a key factor in this reduction is the introduction of a new material for the air conditioners’ outer panels. Moving away from conventional plastic manufacturing techniques, LG uses a foam injection moulding process in which nitrogen gas is injected into the mould to create bubbles within the material.
This innovative approach reduces plastic use by approximately 900 grams per unit. LG has also replaced acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) with polypropylene (PP), which has a lower carbon footprint.
These improvements are expected to reduce plastic consumption by approximately 270 tonnes per year and carbon emissions by more than 4400 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent annually – a reduction comparable to the carbon absorbed in one year by a 30-year-old pine forest covering more than 580 football pitches.
